About Z Blok Sunscreen

Z Blok Sunscreen Won’t Sting Your Eyes.

All Z Blok products are mineral based with Zinc Oxide.

Z Blok Sunscreen won’t sting or burn your eyes so you can stay focused on what you are doing.

Z Blok Sunscreen’s unique formula does not utilize any of the inexpensive petroleum based ingredients often found in other sunscreens that can sting or burn your eyes. We avoided these ingredients precisely because they often burn or irritate the eyes. Z Blok sunscreen’s unique formula with zinc oxide allows athletes to protect their skin without having to worry about eye irritation which can significantly compromise their performance. That is why the Puma Ocean Racing Team chose Z Blok as its official sunscreen for the grueling 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race circumnavigating the globe.

I am so glad I came across Z Blok prior to our trip to the Great Barrier Reef. It stayed on for hours and did not sting our eyes. My father and daughter applied it before an entire morning of kayaking and snorkeling in the harsh Australian sun and it protected them all day. The whole family really loved it. The lip balm is really good too. Thank you for making a high quality sunscreen!

Z Blok Sunscreen Protects Against Both UVA & UVB Rays

Many sunscreens claim to protect against both UVA and UVB rays although many do not actually protect against the harmful UVA rays that penetrate deeper into the skin. The danger from UVA rays has been validated by Australian research. In this study, Australian researchers found that UVA rays caused DNA damage to the cells deep within the skin. Because this is the layer of cells that regenerates our skin, it is feared that damage to the DNA of these cells may increase a person’s risk of developing the most serious types of skin cancer. So buying a sunscreen with “broad spectrum” (industry lingo for protecting against both UVA & UVB rays) protection against UVA rays as well as UVB rays is very important. Current research has validated the fact that the best broad-spectrum coverage is found in sunscreens that utilize either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as active ingredients.

Z Blok sunscreen has proven to effectively protect against both UVA rays as well as UVB rays because Z Blok contains zinc oxide (hence the Z Blok name), the same ingredient that lifeguards use to protect themselves from long days in the sun (although our formula rubs in clear unlike pure zinc oxide).

About SPF & Sun Protection

The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) rating system measures only sun protection from UVB rays. Because UVB rays cause sunburn, experts recommend you use a sunscreen with SPF factors of 15 to 30. This range represents the best balance between protection and price. You will get over 90 percent protection from UVB rays with SPF 15. With factors above SPF 30, you get very little additional protection.

No sunscreen, no matter how high the SPF factor, can offer 100 per cent protection from UVB rays. And remember that while UVA rays do not cause sunburn on the surface of the skin, they cause damage to skin cells beneath the surface of the skin that is potentially more dangerous. Research has shown that sunscreen products with zinc oxide or titanium oxide provide the best protection against UVA rays.

About Zinc Oxide & Z Blok’s Clear Zinc Formula

Zinc oxide is best known as the sunblock of choice for lifeguards who spend all day in the most intense sunlight. Indeed, a recent study by the EPA (“The Burning Facts”) concluded that zinc oxide is the only active ingredient in sunscreen products to provide “extensive protection” from cancer causing UVA rays in addition to UVB rays, which is what SPF measures.

The first question most people ask about zinc oxide is “will I look pasty white like a life guard?” In the case of Z Blok™ sunscreen (the Z stands for zinc oxide) the answer is no. The zinc oxide in Z Blok sunscreen, called Clear Zinc™, is finely ground so that it will rub in clear.
